Gene K. Sawdon
Gene was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Port Huron, Michigan. He graduated from Port Huron High School in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965.
Gene’s military service included Basic Training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio TX, Electronics School at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS specializing in ground radar maintenance. He was stationed at Clark AFB, Philippines, and served Temporary Duty at Dong Ha Vietnam, and Phitsanulok Thailand. He was also stationed at Tan Son Nhut AFB, Saigon, Vietnam and was discharged at Tyndall AFB, Panama City, FL.
Upon completion of his Air Force tour of duty Gene returned to his studies at Michigan State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management in 1973.
His work history includes five years as owner of a Dunkin’ Donut franchise in Okemos MI, 16-year owner of a retail furniture store in Saginaw MI, and he retired after 22 years of sales and management from Sysco Food Service Nashville, TN.
Gene has been married to his wife Kristina, for 50 years. His daughter Tara lives in Brentwood TN and daughter Carrie lives in Holland, MI. Gene and Kris have two grandchildren who live in Grand Rapids, MI and Columbus, NE.
Gene currently serves as the Commander of the Southern Springs Veterans Club, board member of The Well Outreach and attends Wellspring Christian Church.
